About Us
Friends of the Chippewa School is a passionate group committed to the preservation of our historical schoolhouse in Clyde, Ohio. We believe in the importance of maintaining our heritage for future generations.
The schoolhouse has been closed for over 80 years and is the ONLY school left in Sandusky County, Clyde, Ohio still in its original condition. Located On CR 233 in Riley Township, it stands alone as a statement to a once thriving education system for local children
Our mission is to restore the school to its original state...just as it was in 1893.
While in relatively good shape, the 132 year old building needs renovating inside and outside. The brick and mortar have been repaired thanks to a grant by the Sandusky County Communities Foundation.
The sidewalk, cistern, steps and stoop all need attention. Inside, the walls and flooring also need attention as well as updated electric and some kind of heating/cooling unit to maintain a consistent atmosphere.
Our goal is to open the school to the public, encouraging schools, groups and the community to experience what life was like in the early days of education in Sandusky County.
